The WCR4™ Method · Pillar 03 · Demographics & Intersectionality

"Women" is not a market segment. It's at least a dozen of them wearing a trench coat.

If a brand's entire consumer strategy is built around 'targeting women,' that brand doesn't have a strategy. It has a guess dressed up in a deck.

A 24-year-old single woman building a business on TikTok, a 45-year-old mother re-entering the workforce after a divorce, and a 67-year-old woman managing her aging parents' finances are not the same consumer wearing different outfits. They have different income realities, different time constraints, different levels of trust in institutions, and different relationships to money itself. Race, class, region, sexuality, ability, and generation all stack on top of gender and change the entire purchasing equation. Treating them as one interchangeable audience isn't inclusive marketing. It's lazy marketing that happens to include a stock photo of a woman smiling at her laptop.

The Demographics & Intersectionality pillar of WCR4™ refuses the shortcut. It breaks down exactly who a brand's "women" actually are, layer by layer, and identifies where a one-size-fits-all message is quietly alienating the very people it claims to be for. A Black professional woman navigating the "double tax" of overperforming at work and at home does not respond to the same messaging as a white suburban mom whose biggest daily friction is carpool logistics. Both are valid consumers. Neither should be getting the same ad.

This pillar is where a lot of well-intentioned brands find out their "women's marketing" was actually just marketing to one specific kind of woman, and calling it universal. That's not a moral failure. It's a research failure, and it's fixable.

How Demographics & Intersectionality works in practice.

The Method, Together

Emotions tells you what she's feeling. Gender Socialization tells you what she was taught to want. Demographics & Intersectionality tells you which "she" you're actually talking to. Legacy Consumerism™ tells you whose story she's still finishing.

Run a brand through all four, in order, and you stop guessing about the female consumer and start actually understanding her. That's the difference between a campaign that performs and a campaign that's remembered.
